"text": "I've written the service, but I haven't compiled or run it. Go isn't installed in my sandbox, so please run `go build` and `go run .` on your side. It uses only the standard library, so there are no dependencies to fetch. It needs Go 1.22 or later for the method-and-pattern routing.\n\n**How it works**\n- **`POST /decision-adapter`**: reads the body (capped at 1 MiB) and logs the request headers and source. The source includes the remote IP, `X-Forwarded-For`, `X-Real-Ip`, user agent, host, origin and referer. It then caches the event, passes it to the PDP stub, and returns `200 {}`.\n- **`GET /`**: returns the cached events as JSON, newest first. The route is exact-match, so it only serves the base path.\n- **Cache (`cache.go`)**: holds at most 10 events and drops the oldest when an 11th arrives. Every new event resets a 24-hour timer, and if no event arrives in that time the cache clears. It is thread-safe.\n- **PDP (`pdp.go`)**: `PDPRequest` and `PDPResponse` are empty structs, as you asked. `PDPClient.Evaluate` and `BuildPDPRequest` are stubs with TODOs. The PDP base URL is read from the `PDP_URL` environment variable.\n- **Config**: `PORT` sets the listen port (default `8080`). The server shuts down gracefully on SIGINT or SIGTERM.\n\n**Choices I made that you may want to change**\n- **Redaction**: `Authorization`, `Cookie`, `Proxy-Authorization` and `X-Api-Key` are replaced with `[REDACTED]` in both the logs and the cache. The `GET /` endpoint is otherwise unauthenticated, so this keeps credentials from leaking through it. The list is `sensitiveHeaders` in `main.go`.\n- **Hook response**: I don't know what response schema the Claude hook expects, so it currently returns an empty `{}` and ignores the PDP decision. Once you define `PDPResponse`, map it into the response in `handleDecision`.\n- **Body storage**: the payload is stored as raw JSON, because the hook's schema isn't modelled yet. A body that isn't valid JSON is stored as a JSON string.\n- **Exposure**: the `GET /` endpoint returns full event bodies. Put it behind auth or an internal-only listener before deploying it anywhere shared."

Logs headers + source, caches the event, passes it to the PDP stub. Returns `200 {}`. |\n| GET | `/` | Returns the cached events as JSON, newest first. Base path only. |\n| GET | `/healthz` | Liveness/readiness probe. Returns `200 ok`. |\n\n### Event cache\n\n- Holds the **last 10 events**; when full, the oldest is evicted first.\n- **Cleared after 24 hours with no new events** (each new event resets the timer).\n- In-memory only: contents are lost on restart and are not shared across replicas.\n\nBoth limits are configurable (see below).\n\n### Sensitive headers\n\n`Authorization`, `Proxy-Authorization`, `Cookie` and `X-Api-Key` are replaced\nwith `[REDACTED]` in logs **and** in the cache. Edit `sensitiveHeaders` in\n`internal/server/server.go` to change the list.\n\n\u003e **Note:** `GET /` returns full event bodies and is unauthenticated. Restrict\n\u003e it (network policy, auth proxy, or internal-only listener) before deploying\n\u003e anywhere shared.\n\n## Configuration\n\nAll configuration is via environment variables.\n\n| Variable | Default | Description |\n|------------------|---------|-----------------------------------------------|\n| `PORT` | `8080` | HTTP listen port. |\n| `PDP_URL` | _empty_ | Base URL of the PDP (unused until implemented). |\n| `CACHE_SIZE` | `10` | Max number of events kept. |\n| `CACHE_TTL` | `24h` | Inactivity period after which the cache is cleared (Go duration, e.g. `30m`, `24h`). |\n| `MAX_BODY_BYTES` | `1048576` | Maximum accepted request body size. |\n| `LOG_LEVEL` | `info` | `debug`, `info`, `warn` or `error`. |\n\n## Getting started\n\nRequires Go 1.22+ (uses method-based routing patterns in `net/http`).\n\n```bash\nmake run # go run ./cmd/decision-adapter\nmake test # go test -race ./...\nmake build # builds bin/decision-adapter\n```\n\nTry it:\n\n```bash\ncurl -X POST localhost:8080/decision-adapter \\\n -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \\\n -H 'Authorization: Bearer secret' \\\n -d '{\"hook\":\"example\"}'\n\ncurl localhost:8080/\n```\n\n## Docker\n\n```bash\nmake docker-build\ndocker run --rm -p 8080:8080 -e PDP_URL=https://pdp.internal/v1/decide decision-adapter:latest\n```\n\nThe image is a multi-stage build producing a static binary on\n`gcr.io/distroless/static-debian12:nonroot`. Distroless has no shell or curl,\nso use `GET /healthz` from your orchestrator (e.g. a Kubernetes\n`httpGet` probe) rather than a Docker `HEALTHCHECK`.\n\n## Project layout\n\n```\ncmd/decision-adapter/ entrypoint (config, wiring, graceful shutdown)\ninternal/config/ environment-based configuration\ninternal/model/ shared domain types (Event, SourceInfo)\ninternal/cache/ bounded, TTL-cleared event cache (+ tests)\ninternal/pdp/ PDP client and request/response structs (stubs)\ninternal/server/ HTTP handlers (+ tests)\n```\n\n## PDP integration (TODO)\n\n`internal/pdp` contains empty `Request` and `Response` structs and a stub\n`Client.Evaluate`. To complete the integration:\n\n1. Define the `Request` / `Response` fields per the PDP contract.\n2. Map the Claude hook payload in `pdp.BuildRequest`.\n3. Implement the HTTP call in `Client.Evaluate` (auth, timeouts, retries).\n4. Translate the PDP decision into the response expected by the Claude hook in\n `handleDecision` (currently always `200 {}`).\n\n## Notes\n\n- The module path `github.com/your-org/decision-adapter` is a placeholder.\n Replace it in `go.mod` and in all imports (e.g.\n `grep -rl your-org . | xargs sed -i 's#github.com/your-org#github.com/\u003cyour-org\u003e#g'`).\nEOF\n\ngofmt -l . 2\u003e\u00261 | head; find . -type f | sort",

I couldn't compile or test it, because Go and Docker aren't available in my sandbox. Run `make test` and `make docker-build` first to confirm it builds.\n\n**Project layout**\n```\ncmd/decision-adapter/main.go entrypoint: config, wiring, graceful shutdown\ninternal/config/ env-based config\ninternal/model/ Event, SourceInfo\ninternal/cache/ 10-event cache with 24h inactivity expiry, plus tests\ninternal/pdp/ empty Request/Response structs, client stub\ninternal/server/ handlers, plus tests\nDockerfile Makefile README.md .gitignore .dockerignore go.mod\n```\n\n**What changed from the first version**\n- **Config**: the cache size, TTL, body limit and log level are now environment variables (`CACHE_SIZE`, `CACHE_TTL`, `MAX_BODY_BYTES`, `LOG_LEVEL`). The defaults are the same as before: 10 events and 24h.\n- **Logging**: it now uses structured JSON logging (`log/slog`) instead of plain `log`.\n- **Health check**: I added `GET /healthz` for orchestrator probes. The image is distroless and has no shell or curl, so a Docker `HEALTHCHECK` wouldn't work. The README says to use an `httpGet` probe instead.\n- **Tests**: the cache tests cover eviction order, expiry after inactivity, and the timer resetting on new events. The handler tests cover header redaction, the base-path-only route, and 405 on a GET to `/decision-adapter`.\n- **Dockerfile**: it is a multi-stage build that produces a static binary on `distroless/static:nonroot`.\n- **Makefile**: it has `build`, `run`, `test`, `vet`, `fmt`, `docker-build` and `docker-run` targets.\n- **README**: it covers the endpoints, cache behaviour, configuration table, Docker usage, and the PDP integration steps still to do.\n\n**Before you use it**\n- The module path `github.com/your-org/decision-adapter` is a placeholder. The README has a one-line `sed` command to replace it everywhere.\n- There is no `go.sum` yet, because the project has no third-party dependencies. If you add some later, run `go mod tidy` and change the Dockerfile's `COPY go.mod ./` to also copy `go.sum`.\n- `GET /` is still unauthenticated and returns full event bodies. Put it behind your usual network controls before deploying."

"text": "This looks like an environment problem, not a bug in the Go code. The crash is inside the Go toolchain (`cmd/go`), while it's still resolving packages, before any of our code compiles. The stack runs through `runtime/mgc.go`, which is the garbage collector, so the toolchain itself fell over.\n\nThe usual causes are:\n\n1. **Emulation**: on Apple Silicon, or with an `amd64` image on an ARM machine, the Go compiler runs under QEMU or Rosetta, and it often crashes this way.\n2. **Low memory**: the Docker VM may not have enough RAM for the build.\n\nI updated the `Dockerfile` to avoid the first cause. The build stage now runs natively on your machine's architecture (`--platform=$BUILDPLATFORM`) and cross-compiles to the target with `GOOS` and `GOARCH`. No emulation is involved, and the final image is still a static distroless binary. I also switched the build image from `golang:1.22-alpine` to `golang:1.22-bookworm`, to rule out any musl-related quirks. The build stage doesn't ship, so the size doesn't matter.\n\nRebuild with:\n\n```bash\ndocker build --no-cache -t decision-adapter .\n```\n\nIf it still fails:\n\n- **Check Docker's memory**: in Docker Desktop, go to Settings → Resources and give it at least 4 GB.\n- **Send me the top of the log**: the trace you pasted is cut off before the first line, which would say `fatal error: ...` or `SIGSEGV`. That line would tell me which cause it is.\n- **Check your architecture**: run `docker version --format '{{.Server.Arch}}'` and `uname -m` and tell me if they differ.\n\nI haven't been able to build this myself, since Docker and Go aren't available in my sandbox, so this is a diagnosis from the trace and not a confirmed fix. The updated `Dockerfile` is in the `decision-adapter/` folder, and I regenerated `decision-adapter.tar.gz` to match."

"text": "I added a push script and a Fargate task definition to the project (`deploy/push-to-ecr.sh` and `deploy/ecs/task-definition.json`). I can't reach your AWS account from here, so none of this has been run. It assumes ECS on Fargate; if you're using EC2 instances, tell me and I'll adjust.\n\n## 1. Push the image to ECR\n\n```bash\nAWS_REGION=eu-west-1 ./deploy/push-to-ecr.sh v1\n```\n\nThe script creates the `decision-adapter` repo if it doesn't exist, logs Docker in to ECR, and builds and pushes the image. It builds for `linux/amd64` on purpose. If you build on Apple Silicon without specifying a platform, you get an arm64 image, and Fargate's default X86_64 tasks will then fail with `exec format error`. To run on ARM instead, set `PLATFORM=linux/arm64` and change `cpuArchitecture` to `ARM64` in the task definition.\n\n## 2. One-time ECS setup\n\n```bash\nexport AWS_REGION=eu-west-1\n\naws logs create-log-group --log-group-name /ecs/decision-adapter\naws ecs create-cluster --cluster-name decision-adapter\n\n# After filling in the \u003cPLACEHOLDERS\u003e in task-definition.json:\naws ecs register-task-definition --cli-input-json file://deploy/ecs/task-definition.json\n```\n\nThe task definition expects an `ecsTaskExecutionRole`, which is the standard role with `AmazonECSTaskExecutionRolePolicy`. It lets ECS pull from ECR and write logs. If your account doesn't have the role, create it first.\n\n## 3. Create the service\n\nIf you only need to test it, you can skip the load balancer and create a service with a public IP:\n\n```bash\naws ecs create-service \\\n --cluster decision-adapter \\\n --service-name decision-adapter \\\n --task-definition decision-adapter \\\n --desired-count 1 \\\n --launch-type FARGATE \\\n --network-configuration \"awsvpcConfiguration={subnets=[subnet-xxx],securityGroups=[sg-xxx],assignPublicIp=ENABLED}\"\n```\n\nFor anything real, put it behind an Application Load Balancer.\n\n- **Target group**: use port 8080 and health check path `/healthz`.\n- **Security group**: allow inbound on port 8080 only from the ALB.\n- **HTTPS**: the Claude hook needs an endpoint it can reach, so terminate TLS on the ALB.\n\n## Things to watch\n\n- **Health checks**: the image is distroless, with no shell or curl, so use the ALB health check on `/healthz` and not a container-level check.\n- **Multiple tasks**: the cache is in memory and per task. With a desired count above 1, `GET /` shows whichever task the load balancer picks. Keep it at 1 if you want one consistent view of the last 10 events.\n- **Exposure**: `GET /` is unauthenticated and returns full event bodies. Restrict it with an internal ALB, a security group, or an auth rule on the ALB listener, so only the hook's traffic can reach `/decision-adapter`.\n- **PDP_URL**: set it in the task definition's `environment`. If it's sensitive, move it to Secrets Manager or SSM and use the `secrets` field.\n- **Logs**: they go to the CloudWatch log group `/ecs/decision-adapter`, which is where you'll see the headers and source for each request.\n\nI also added this as a short section in the README and regenerated `decision-adapter.tar.gz`. If you share your VPC setup, I can write the ALB and service as Terraform or CloudFormation."

Docker on a Mac runs a Linux VM, so the image is always a Linux image, and the Dockerfile compiles the Go binary with `GOOS=linux`. It will run on a Linux host.\n\nThe one thing that can go wrong is the CPU architecture. A plain `docker build` produces an image for your Mac's architecture:\n\n- **Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3)**: you get a `linux/arm64` image. It runs on ARM Linux hosts, such as Graviton instances. It won't run on standard x86_64 Linux servers and fails with `exec format error`.\n- **Intel Mac**: you get a `linux/amd64` image, which works on standard x86_64 Linux.\n\nIf your target is x86_64 Linux, build for it explicitly:\n\n```bash\ndocker buildx build --platform linux/amd64 -t decision-adapter .\n```\n\nThe Dockerfile already supports this, so no changes are needed. Check what you built with `docker image inspect decision-adapter --format '{{.Architecture}}'`, which prints `amd64` or `arm64`."
